New Year New Me?

Happy New year everyone!! (I know I'm 11 days late)

Hope you all had an amazing start to the new year and kept to your resolutions...Don't give up on them.

I made a few resolutions which were quite realistic, one was to blog frequently (which I kinda failed cos we are 11 days into the new year) and to read more often. I made the latter resolution a few year ago and remember buying a book which I didn't even bother reading, to this day that book is still sitting on my shelf yearning to be read, maybe I'll read it this year who knows...

However that does not mean I have failed in keeping my resolution, I have been good and on the 1st January 2016 I opened the first book  (which was Outlander book 1) in ages and started reading, and ever since I have not stopped searching for new books to read, I also ordered the complete Outlander series which is enough reading for a few months.

I think its awakened my passion for reading because I have read four books so far. I have set myself a goal on Goodreads which is to read 40 books this year. I don't think I'll have a problem with achieving that goal seen as I have read 4 books by the 11th day.

If you know of any good books, leave your recommendations in the comments bar down below, and hope to speak to you all soon.

Bye for now.

Goodbye July...Hello August

Hey Lovelies,

Happy August!!!! Can you believe that July is over???

July consisted of sleepless nights due to fasting, going to work very tired and coming back home and napping for a few hours. It was also a month where I got to spend loads of times with family and Muslims all around the world celebrated Eid after the holy month of Ramadan.

I started blogging again, I really enjoy writing and have always wrote a few stories in my notebook, always writing down plot lines. I spent a few days trying to sort out the mess this blog had become and hope make it better soon.

I want to achieve so much this year because I want to start living for myself, all my life I have spent doing things for others (I’m not going into too much detail about it), and it is the right time to start taking action and start living. I have a long list of things that I want to achieve, somethings cannot be achieved in month or a year, so each month I will set small goals which are steps to achieving the big goals, one of these goals is to have my own business that will become successful.

My goals for this month are:

Get back to the gym -  I need to unfreeze my gym account and start going. I have set a few days that I will dedicate an hour or two at the gym.

Blogging - I will start posting more often, at least two posts a week.

Be Positive- To start thinking more positively, surround myself around happy people, to make sure I stick to this one I will start posting positive pics on my Instagram and Twitter, as well as having the odd positive related blog post.

I hope to achieve these goals this month and kept them realistic as I am a super lazy person and I know that I won't commit to them if they were too hard to achieve.
Let me know what your goals are this month?

Secret for Beautiful Hair and Skin

christy turlington, poem, rosemary, quote
Hey Lovelies,

I wanted to share with you one of my all time favourite beauty secret, which is rosemary oil. I absolutely love using rosemary oil in my hair and skin care routine. It has many health benefits such as it can help stimulate hair growth, boosts mental activity for example stress and depression, relieves many skin conditions, reduces pain and relieves respiratory problems.

rosemary, rosemary essential oil, cleanser, toner, leave in conditioner,

I use rosemary oil mainly for my hair and skin. For hair rosemary oil helps strengthen hair, resulting in lovely long locks. It also slows down the graying of hair as well as baldness, and leaves you with a flake free scalp. To use rosemary as a leave in conditioner follow these simple steps;

You will need:

1 cup of Warm water
Rosemary oil

Boil some water and pour in a jug.
Make sure the water is warm before adding rosemary oil
Add 10 drops of rosemary oil to the water.
Let it sit for a few hours.
Pour into a spray bottle.
After washing hair spray the mixture on to damp hair to act as a leave in conditioner.

Rosemary for the skin works wonders too, it eliminates eczema and dermatitis as well as curing acne and reducing oily skin. It tones the skin, reducing wrinkles and dry skin and can also reduce scarring and spots. I have tried many ways of using rosemary oil in my skincare routine, and the one below is what works best for me. I am using measurements as a guideline, if you want make more then just use the measurements to calculate how much your going to need.

castor oil, rosemary oil, olive oil, cleanser, toner, face wash

You will need:

100ml Olive oil
25ml Castor oil
Rosemary oil
Flannel
Hot water

Mix the olive oil and castor oil together in a container
Add 8 drops of rosemary oil to the mixture
Shake well
Apply a a small drop in your hand and rub your hands together to make the oil warm
Apply the oil to your face and massage well
Leave the oil on your face for about 30 mins (longer if you want to, relax, put your feet up)
Place the flannel under hot water and rinse well
Making sure its not too hot place flannel on your face
This will open up your pores and let the oils do their job.
Gently wipe the face and repeat if necessary.
Apply a tiny drop of the oil mixture or any other moisturiser to your face.

olive oil, spanish oil, rosemary essential oil, rosemary, castor oil, cleanser, toner,

Please not I am not an expert so please consult Doctor or a professional before using rosemary oil. Do not use if you are pregnant and never apply neat oils directly onto skin and avoid using it near the eyes.

I hope you found this post useful, let me know in the comments bar if you tried them out or if you have any other uses for rosemary oil.

Thanks for reading, why not read my previous post.

Speak to you soon

An Interview With Humaira Khan

Hey lovelies!

This weeks interview is with Humaira Khan from www.modestmovement.blogspot.com, she is a 14 year old blogger who writes posts on modesty and hijab related issues, I haven't come across many young bloggers yet and Humaira's blog is so interesting especially for when I wear a headscarf too. So lets get started with the interview...

Hi Humaira! tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi I was born in England and I grew up in a town in Greater Manchester. I am a high school student in an all girls school and my favourite subjects are English, Art and Textiles. I am indeed the middle child. I love making people laugh or smile. On my blog, I try to provide sisters with knowledge and diverse inputs on all things modest related although I can go off topic and talk about other things... I also have a lot of fun on the side with singing, drawing, going out and spending time with my loved ones, shopping, playing video games and taking pictures.

What inspired you to start blogging?

Knowing my passion for creativity and fashion and my knowledge about being modest, I had the idea of starting to blog. One day after indulging in many other blogs and youtube videos for a long time, I decided to make a blog where people can enjoy learning about modesty, fashion, DIY and much more.

How often do you post a blog, and do you schedule your blog posts?

I keep a mini notepad with me most of the time where I jot down ideas that come to my head. This way I can remember them and write about it when ever I am not busy. So I’d say I post approximately once or twice a week.

Do your friends and family know that you blog?

Yes, they were the first people to know and I was surprised their reaction was good and they are alright with it plus they are proud of what I write and share. In addition, I'm very thankful for all the support they give me.

What is the highlight of your blogging journey?

Being able to have contact with other bloggers/youtubers and receiving invitations to take part in meet & greets.

What makes a good blog?

Know what your writing about and who the audience is. This way you will develop a writing style and the way you are speaking to them. Moreover it is important to update as much as you can in order to attract more readers. Lastly it is ideal to make the blog look amazing and make sure the layout is good. You can do this by choosing a colour theme and nice fonts. Furthermore your posts should look fun, not boring. Therefore add more pictures and ask the readers question so they can comment.

Now your blog posts are mainly hijab related, tell us a bit about your hijab journey?

My big sister was actually the one who inspired me as she would wear it all the time and I found it beautiful. Therefore I started to wear the hijab when I was in year six but only sometimes and I didn’t understand the true meaning of it until probably at the age of thirteen. Now I wear it all the time and wouldn't dare to take it off.

Were there times when you struggle with hijab?

I grew up having very sensitive skin. I found that the hijab would make me feel hot and my skin would break out on my face or go red so I decided to not wear it for a period of time until I got better. After a while, It was the end of my first year in high school and I was truly devoted to turn over a new leaf and become more modest. I thought that it would be easier for me to wear the hijab after a six week break so I could have time to get ready. I did wonder what people would say when I went back to school but it actually went well as many people liked it and now they are used to it.

What advice would you give to someone who wanted to start wearing a hijab?

Wearing the hijab is a huge commitment, but one of the most rewarding. I have a few tips I put together on my blog that can help sisters who want to start wearing the hijab on this link: http://mainlymodest.blogspot.co.uk/2014/05/hijabi-wannabe.html

Name three blogs that you read

I hope you enjoyed this interview and do follow Humaira on Twitter and visit www.modestymovement.blogspot.com

Blog Update

planner, organiser, diary, filofax, pink floor original

Hey Lovelies,

A few days ago I posted that I've returned to my blog after neglecting it for nearly a year. There are many reasons why my blog got neglected one mainly because it had been so long that I forgot my password to my Gmail account and various social media accounts. But the other day I sat down and thought why not figure it out, after many attempts and failing, I finally found my password written down in an old notebook that I used for blogging last year (duh).

I also got a new job last year, before I got the job I had so much spare time I could blog whenever I wanted to, I found that working long hours and coming home late sucked all the energy out of me and I would fall asleep within minutes. I would start work at 8am and finish at 10pm, and probably get back home about half 10, I was working nearly every day of the week, at times I would work 10 days in a row before I could get a day off. It wasn't until I went to Pakistan in March that I realised I worked way too much, the people in Pakistan are so relaxed about life, in the two weeks I spent there I became more relaxed, stress free and happy.

When I returned back to the UK, everything seemed depressing, maybe I was having post holiday blues, I don't know, I just didn't feel like doing anything. Then my Mum fell ill and I wanted to look after her so I went part time, which was the best decision I've made this year so far. I have more time to spend with my family and I'm not always rushing around. For now I would like to stay part time, whilst I find something that is more suited for me to do which allows me the freedom to spend time with family.

Back to the topic of why I stopped blogging, another reason why I stopped was because I felt that the posts that I was putting up weren't "me", they lacked quality, mainly because I was putting the pressure on myself to post on different topics everyday, which meant that each post would have had to be rushed in time to get posted, I must have wrote so much that I couldn't even think of a topic to write about. I had the famous WRITERS BLOCK!!

So when I found my password and saw the horrendous posts that I had put up for the world to see, i was embarrassed. After a good clear out and rearranging my blog, I still have a lot to do with this blog. Hopefully I will have my blog layout set up by September (sticking to realistic goals).

I also have a few blog posts lined up, which I am working hard on, I want to produce good quality posts including good photos. So bear with me while I sort out this big mess of a blog.

Speak to you all soon.

I'm Back!!

Hey lovelies,

So, ermm yeah its been quite a long time since I uploaded a post. Where have I been??

Well I have had a lot going on, working long hours, my sister finally got married and a lot more that takes up majority of my time. I really want to get back into blogging and I am dedicating some time trying to make this blog work. Looking back at the posts and realising how bad I was at uploading posts  :O. I have deleted some posts and updated others, tried to make them look as decent as possible. I also think I felt the need to blog everyday, meaning my blog content wasn't as in depth and  each post was rushed and not getting the attention it needed.

So hopefully I will revamp the whole site, edit all my old posts and keep the ones that I think were fit for the site. I aim to post at least two posts each week on certain topics (Tuesdays and Fridays) as well as uploading daily blogs that will just be a reflection what I have got up to during the day and my thoughts.

I hope to speak to you all soon, and Eid Mubarak to all those that are celebrating it, hope you all have a blessed day.

Shaheen
